The Adventures of Tintin - The Secret of the Unicorn

To start off, I think I’ll just admit that I never liked the classic Tintin books by Herge. I didn’t understand how somebody could possibly make a movie that was exciting. But my hopes raised a little when I heard that it was to be directed by Steven Spielberg and featured Daniel Craig (though only as a voice!).

Suddenly the trailer came out, and I was entranced. The animation was breathtakingly realistic, and instead of being a dreary story, it looked full of life and adventure. It’s like bringing in a big wooden horse that you suspect is full of soldiers, but finding treasure packed into every last bit.

The story was surprisingly intriguing, though at times predictable. The predictability was not always bad, as I found it entertaining to guess what would happen next, or how Tintin would find his way out of trouble. The plot followed, as I mentioned, a pretty predictable storyline, but it was entertaining and widely varied. From London to the middle of the sea, to being stranded in a desert, it was an exciting and fun movie to watch.

The villainous characters were well portrayed, and the drunken Captain Haddock as one of the protagonists was funny to watch. The villainous Rackham is hunting the lost treasure of "The Unicorn", a ship once owned by Captain Haddock's grandfather, Captain Haddock. As the two battle it out to find the treasure first, Tintin is drawnin, along with two inept cops, Thompson and Thompson (Nick Frost, Simon Pegg) to help find the treasure. To wrap it up, I’m going to give it a 4 out of 5 stars, and recommend you to see it – after all, I’m a convinced Tintin hater and still loved it.
