Portal 2 - The Modern Puzzle

OK so I know what some of you are going to do as soon as I tell you that Portal 2 is a first person shooter. But please! Don't leave this early into the post! Because Portal 2 is much more then meets the eye and much for then the original thought of just another video game. So Portal 2 was the succesor of the valve developed Portal that was released in 2007. Portal was a big successs and was a very different game for its time. It was less of a shooter game and much more of a thinking game where you had to plan out each move and how to solve the puzzles. I know you are sounding confused at the moment but fear not! I will explain how the game works in just a minute. Portal was only released on PC.

But because Portal was so popular on PC when valve was developing Portal 2 they decided to make it available on X-Box 360 and PlayStation 3. The game is set in a post apocalyptic, industrial style map where  you are a human woman and are equipped with a Portal Gun. This gun is able to shoot an opening into any white wall and then when you shoot it again at another white wall it creates a Portal to walk through. This gun is the centre of the whole game. You are put into different levels each game and have to use your portal gun to complete the level and progress through the game. Once you've gotten a hang of using the gun there are other obstacles and equipment added in to make the game more challenging. There are eight stages and a number of different worlds in each of the stages and along with a single player campaign there is a multiplayer campaign with different levels that involves lots of teamwork and strategies.

I found Portal 2 a great game to play. I really enjoyed it because it made me think and really challeneged me. Even though it is a video game it still makes you think fully for yourself which is good because you dont really see that anymore with games. I think Portal 2 is making its way to the list of all time great games games for one main reason. Originality. There is no other game out their like it. It it be the progressing through Portal style gameplay or how you play the game it is truly different from the standard shooter games feild. I give Portal 2 5/5 becuase it really is a perfect, great game.
